DUNGS invests in NextHeat

A strategic partnership for hydrogen-based process heat

DUNGS is investing in the hydrogen start-up NextHeat and deepening the collaboration in a strategic partnership. The aim is to convert industrial process heat from natural gas to hydrogen more quickly.

DUNGS has been developing gas control and safety technology for decades and can already supply solutions designed for operation with pure hydrogen or H₂ admixtures. In many projects, however, the use of hydrogen fails not because of the technology, but because of the lack of availability of hydrogen. Companies want to switch, but need an economically viable solution for hydrogen supply.

NextHeat addresses precisely this bottleneck. The company builds and operates electrolysers directly at industrial customers' sites and supplies hydrogen according to the “H₂ as a service” principle. Customers do not need to set up their own hydrogen production facilities, but receive a reliable supply – regardless of the state of expansion of the hydrogen core network. The entry barrier is significantly reduced, as NextHeat covers the majority of the investment and is responsible for operating the electrolyser.

The partnership combines NextHeat's hydrogen supply with DUNGS' H₂-compatible products and safety expertise. Industrial customers thus receive two critical components from a coordinated combination: available technology and available hydrogen.

“We can supply hydrogen technology today—what many customers lack is the hydrogen. With NextHeat, we are closing this gap.”
Simon Dungs (Managing Director, DUNGS)

“With DUNGS, we are gaining a partner that has mastered industrial gas technology. Together, we are making hydrogen practicable for process heat.”
Fernando Reichert (Managing Director, NextHeat)
